HOORAY it's MORE THEORYCRAFTING ^_^

So this here new soul has been introduced with the new patch as a replacement(?) for the old and OP Gaven's Might. With not nearly as much power as the stacking AA-buff from Gaven, it remains to be determined how good the new toy actually is!

I've heard some of the veterans discard this as "crap" or "useless", which has incentivised me to dig a little deeper on it's behalf because every new soul deserves a chance at recognition!

So one of the first way to look at this is "how often do i have to attack to make this procc?"

And you can expect Celestial to procc on average every 5 autoattacks, because 20% chance.

So without rogue's soul, you use 5 AAs to procc, then you enter the 20s CD phase, which will make you miss your proccchance on the next 13 AAs.

So on average you spend 18 AAs for dealing 220Dmg (Upgraded soul, no interactions with other stuff like FM, reckless etc). This means you get 220Dmg per 27 seconds or otherwise ca. 8.15 DPS

And oh boy, that's actually a lot, isn't it?

+Rogue:

So should we combine it with Rogue's soul? Contrary to the insane Rogue-Gaven interaction, Rogue doesn't actually seem that great of a benefit for Celestial. Because in 20 of the average 27 seconds until the next procc it does absolutely nothing for Celestial.

You get one 220Dmg procc in 26.4 seconds instead of in 27 seconds. WOOOW.

In the end the DPS with Rogue is 8.333, which is only an upgrade of 0.1833 DPS

Now unfortunately this soul has slight problem. It's a projectile that can be dodged by the boss via teleport or going invulnerable in an ultimate etc.

And losing a procc REALLY HURTS when you only get it every 27seconds. This makes Celestial a really high-skill soul because you have to give it attention - and not just when you need it as with others. As of 4.5 there is an indication now, that hovers over your head. This means your NEXT AA will CERTAINLY procc the additional damage. You have to stay your hand until you're certain that the star will have time to land!

So the question in the end is: Can this beat the basic souls? It certainly would if the procc would land instantly as in Zephyre.

In case you don't know statistics and have to use basic probability it's:

Procc on first: 1/5

Procc on second = 4/5 * 1/5

Procc on third = (4/5)^2 * 1/5

etc.

so for the average number of AA's you need to procc it you have

1/5 * sum(n * (4/5)^(n-1)), where n is from 1 to infinite, which is 5 still.

###:

One AA every 1.5 seconds will keep you on CD for 1.5*13 = 19.5 seconds and for the 14th AA on second 21, you're ready to roll the dice on proccing again.

20% chance is too unreliable so you can't do fancy plays with it like using it to clear adds.

You didn't mention but it gives 20 mana so I think it is okay for dps + mana insurance but yea not fun to use, it is like if Selia's Will was "every spell cast you have 50% chance to use this"

Thanks for explaining how to use basic probability as I am not familiar with the formulas. And more thanks for your explanatory guide and analysis for Celestial Soul.
